Client Testimonials

"After three treatments I feel great. Before seeing you I went to our family doc and an orthopedists for my lower back spasms and elbow pain. Your exam was more thorough than the two of them put together. Thanks again."

Things To Consider When Making Your Appointment:
Your health and wellbeing are the most important consideration when choosing any health care provider. Please consider the following:

  • A trusted referral is one of the best methods of considering a health provider.

  • Ask if a free consultation is available to meet with a provider.

  • Interview the practitioner. Evaluate the clinical setting. Determine if you have good communication and you feel comfortable with the provider. Trust in your intuition. Is their a language barrier? If you are not at ease with the practitioner, it will be difficult for you to reveal personal details about your health and in fact your life (including mental and emotional states). This type of information is an integral part of whole body treatment and should not be left out because "you don't feel comfortable". There are many, many licensed acupuncturists out there today to choose from, and with a little work you will be able to find one to suit you and your needs.

  • Do not form an opinion based on the practitioner being Oriental. Skilled Doctors of Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturists that are Caucasian outnumber Oriental Acupuncturists at a ratio of approximately 4 to 1 in the United States. Ethnic background is no substitute for education, years of experience, and being a sincere and caring provider.

  • Experience usually equals results and if your condition is appropriate to be treated with Acupuncture. You’ve heard the saying “location, location, location”: well “experience, experience, experience” is of tremendous value when your health is at stake. The duration of practice plays a role in the overall effectiveness of treatment. As in most areas of life, increased practice enables the Acupuncturist to have treated a wide variety of conditions and symptoms and may allow them a keener insight into your situation.

  • Does the Acupuncturist make promises that sound too good to be true? While Acupuncture is often highly effective in treating a wide range of conditions and their symptoms, every person is different and must be treated as such. As in conventional medicine, a treatment that works for one does not necessarily work for all.

  • Does the Acupuncturist take time to get to know you, or are they solely concerned with treating your condition? As a holistic form of medicine, it is essential that the practitioner become acquainted with the person first and then, and only then, should the determination be made as to how the condition will be treated. We are all unique, with our own set of circumstances and influences that bring our bodies into a state of imbalance. It is of utmost importance that the acupuncturist is aware of these variances, before beginning treatment, in order to effectively restore balance and harmony in the body.

  • Ask how long the initial appointment is and if they treat with Acupuncture on the same day. Skilled Acupuncturists provide for the initial new patient appointment 45 minutes to 1½ hours. Depending on the condition of the patient, this history, evaluation and examination can and should be extensive. An exceptional Acupuncturist will evaluate you in both western medicine, i.e., Orthopedic/Neurological examination and with Traditional Oriental Medicine approaches. Although, Traditional Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture can effectively treat an extensive number of conditions and illness, many conditions exist where appropriate care should involve a western medical approach and intervention. Only education, advance degrees, and experience can provide this knowledge and an appropriate and timely referral.

  • Certification usually indicates a limited education in Acupuncture (In Idaho for example, to be certified only takes 100 of study).

  • Being a Doctor of Oriental Medicine or having a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine is a big plus. Always choose a Licensed Acupuncturist over one that is merely certified. The difference is usually thousands of hours of formal study and a clinical internship, which equates to positive RESULTS.

  • Ask if Medical Doctors in the community refer to Acupuncturists, and if so, to whom.

  • A select group of providers have Diplomat Status in Acupuncture Orthopedics (D.N.B.A.O.). This is a huge plus if you have been injured at work or if your injury and treatment will have medical / legal issues.

  • If your injury was work related and/or if you were injured in a vehicular (auto) accident, evaluate if the practitioner is trained in Western medical evaluation and treatment, as well as Acupuncture. Ask yourself if, he or she would be proficient in testifying to a jury on your behalf, to determine the extent of your injuries and to compensate and reward you fairly. A limited number of Acupuncturists have additional degrees and training in Orthopedics and Neurology. Having the credentials of D.N.B.A.O. (Diplomat National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics) is a big plus. The knowledge obtained in this degree enhances the diagnostic, treatment, and communication skills necessary when working with Western Medical Doctors.

  • Ask if your practitioner is certified in disability evaluation. Having this certification enhances the quality of treatment, evaluation, and medical/legal reports required with Workers Compensation Injuries.

  • If your injury is work-related, ask if he or she is certified as Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME). Again, having been certified as QME demonstrates additional training and competency in treatment and disability evaluation.
